Sustainable Practices

At Maple Hill Ranch, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it is a way of life. We believe that a true ranching legacy is built on respecting the land and the natural cycles of the North. Our daily operations are guided by a commitment to the environment:

• Minimal Carbon Footprint: We believe in sourcing locally. All the hay for our horses comes from our neighbors' nearby fields. By keeping our supply chain local, we significantly reduce transportation emissions and support the local farming economy.

• Closing the Loop: We take pride in our circular economy. All bedding and manure from our stables are recycled and repurposed as nutrient-rich fertilizer for the fields that also provide the hay for sheep. This natural cycle ensures that the soil stays healthy and productive for the seasons to come. 

• Optimized Feeding: The health of our horses and the environment go hand in hand. Our feeding plans are based on detailed laboratory analysis of the forage, ensuring every horse receives exactly what it needs without waste. 

• Responsible Waste Management: We take recycling seriously. We ensure that all plastic waste, such as bale wraps, is properly recycled. Additionally, we have a systematic recycling process for feed bags, cardboard, and bottles to minimize our environmental footprint and ensure that our beautiful countryside stays pristine.

• Energy Efficiency: To conserve energy, our ranches outside lighting is strictly optimized. During the dark autumn and winter months, lights are used only when necessary for stable operations, and we utilize timers to prevent unnecessary electricity consumption. In the client stable we have different light sources for boxes and aisles to be able to keep light for the horses without consuming unnecessary lights.

LOCAL Treasures & Farm-Fresh Egg

The valley of Maple Hill Ranch has also home to our flock of sheep. These 'ladies' were an integral part of our ranch’s ecosystem, helping us maintain the land and bringing their own charm to our daily life.

At our ranch, we enjoy fresh eggs directly from our own flock. During the warmer months, our chickens roam free outdoors within legal and regulatory guidelines. They’ve grown so tame and friendly that they’ll often be the first to greet you when you arrive!
